My wife worked as a flight attendant for a major airline until November of 2005, when she was furloughed. About 30 days ago she received a letter from the airline claiming that they had overpaid her on her last check, in Nov. '05, by about $260 and that if she did not repay the $260 immediately the debt would be sent to collection. She called the contact from the airline listed on the letter and asked for proof but so far all she has gotten is a letter stating that they paid her for 23 hours of work but that she only was due 14 hours worth of pay. There is no supporting documentation showing specific days or hours worked. My wife has written in her calendar from that time that she worked 2 trips that month, which would have normally been 20-25 hours, but she doesn't have a copy of her actual schedule to back that up. Is the airline justified in asking for this repayment with no real documentation to back up their claim? And even if they do produce real documentation are they justified in asking 3 years after the fact?
