No. It is not illegal to terminate employment over the phone in any state.

Additionally, it is not illegal in any state to fire an employee by letter, by Western Union, by fax, by e-mail, by voice mail, by singing telegram, or by smoke signal.

No legislature in any state has seen fit to place a limit on the method by which an employer may terminate your employment.

No to both your questions. Florida has no law dictating when your final pay must be released. There is no state where an employer is required by law to give you a reason for the termination at the time you are fired. A few states require that they provide you with a reason upon your written request, but Florida is not one of those states.
