Sometime in June of this year someone posted a comment towards a former company on my Facebook wall. I was unaware of this until I received a letter in the mail from an attorney to cease/desist and refrain from making slanderous comments on his clients page. I quickly went on Facebook to find that said comment wasn't there. I went to the company's Facebook page and it was there. I responded to the attorneys letter stating that the comment is no longer on Facebook and therefore it has been removed. I mailed the letter certified with in the 5 days stated and called it a day. Today, I receive another notice this time a request to provide a written defense to the company's lawyer. Wtf!! They are during me? For $15k for some crap someone put on their Facebook. I've never even worked at this place let alone know what goes on at the company. Obviously I am very worried and unsure of how to answer this. I'm confused on how they can proceed on a matter than no longer exists. I have 20 days to respond. The comment in question is "too bad dale is running the business into the ground. He took $40,000 and gave it away as Xmas bonuses to four special employees instead of using the money from lockeed to secure materials for the job the had been hired to do. He also barrows money from his dad to pay the bills. He can't even order materials on credit because they have screwed over too many suppliers". I though that might be helpful to know what was said to give better advice.
