I am a teacher at a private school. This would've been my third year there, but my school just announced that they will be closing due to low enrollment. I have a signed contract starting July 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010. I have not yet received any checks from this contract period, and my last paycheck from the previous contract was last week. I am contracted to get a paycheck on July 30th. If the school files bankruptcy, am I an eligible debtor? How do I go about getting paid?

Also, am I eligible for unemployment?

Yes, employees get paid first.
If there are any assets left.

You should immediately file for unemployment.
You should be eligible based upon the bankruptcy and school closing.

Ask the school administration about future payments.
Most likely something will come, the school will be able to say with more certainty.
