Outreach Center building demolished by religious authorities due to old facility. We are relocated to facility garages....no air, very hot environment. All are feeling weak and tired, working condition becoming nearly unbearable. I'm concerned about the health of all. Are we eligible for unemployment...the other bldg was heated and cooled and for years a very safe place to work. Not certain of laws in California. This situation has changed the condition of our employment.

When you called the UI office of your state to inquire, what did they say?

Honestly, I'm not sure why so many people think they have to know whether they are eligible or not before they can apply. There is no cost to apply and no penalty for being wrong. The worst that can happen is that the state says no, in which cases you're no worse off than if you didn't apply in the first place.

I have no idea what the state would say on this issue but you'll never know unless you try.

Thank you cbg

I hadn't asked the UI about this yet, did try but it's pretty tough getting through to them these days. They appear to be short of employees. Of course, I'll keep trying. Appreciate your response...thanks much.

note to cdb: am trying to get my ducks in a row...I haven't left this job yet...am just considering this option with UI as a backup while I search elsewhere. If I apply now, UI phones the current place to find out what's going on. Probably why people are trying to get some clarity before just leaving a job. Thanks again

You don't have to APPLY to ask the question. It's perfectly acceptable to call their customer service line and ask a general question. They won't contact your employer for that.
