Here is my situation. I do not make alot of money. I have done everything PRO SE until now. I finally have a court date. My case is for simple visitation for my son. I am an unwed father and the mother has been unreasonable with letting me see my son. I was there when he was born and signed the birth certificate. He has my last name. Being with my son is the most important thing for me. My question is would it benefit me alot to have a lawyer with me in court or would it make things more complicated? AND should I have character witnesses?

I work for a non-profit (with KIDS). Everyone knows I am great with kids and that I lvoe my son. I do not want to screw this up but I also have to watch my pennies.

I am in Orange County Florida

See if you can find a pro-bono attorney who can help you with this. It is always good to have as much legal back up as you possibly can with petitions like the one you are trying to make. Good Luck!

do you qualify for legal aid? Also, google some fathers rights groups in your state. If all you want is standard visitation for your son, then getting every other weekend should not be too diffificult. Also ask for fathers day, half of the childs birthday, your birthday, and split X-mas and Thanksgiving. Try to be as specific as possible. Work a second job or borrow $$ for an attorney if you still are not successful.
