Do I get to keep the home we bought?

My husband just moved out this past week. We are in the process of starting the seperation/divorce and I am in the home with our 4 children. I don't want to have to sell the home, but my husband keeps telling me we have to sell and split the equity or if I stay I have to buy him out. Is this true? What can I do to stay? We have been married for 15.5 years, live in Oregon.

That's what i had to do, but I'm in Illinois. I wouldn't trust your husband for legal advice in the divorce, though, talk to a lawyer. If you decide that the home is to be sold, I wouldn't do it until the judge makes his ruling. when my mom and dad got divorced, since all of us kids were already over 18, the judge ordered them to sell, but he ruled that mom was actually entitled to 65% of the equity, not 50%. let the lawyers and the judge figure it all out and do whatever the judge decides. you sell now and give up 1/2 the equity, you may be hurting yourself.
