Discrimination

I have a question about being discriminated against. I had a small claims case against a local mechanic shop (I will call it mechanic shop #1). A different mechanic shop (mechanic shop #2) had to make repairs that mechanic shop #1 caused. I asked mechanic shop #2 if they would be able to go to court and testify on my behalf and was told yes they would and that they could only testify to what they saw and made repairs to, I was fine with this. I told him I would pay his lost wages for the day. I called and told him when the court date was set for and on the day of court he didn't show up. This was in July of this year. I had used mechanic shop #2 for many many years and never had a bit of trouble. I called today and asked them to tow my vehicle to their shop because my car wouldn't start. When he asked for my info he said they were no longer allowed to work on my vehicle because I had sued the mechanic shop #1. They are in no way affiliated and this came as quite a shock to me because I had been a loyal customer for many years and had never had a problem with mechanic shop #2. It was rather upsetting to hear and they would give me no other reason as to why except that they knew I had sued another mechanic. Is this considered discrimination? Are they allowed to do this and if so why? I didnt do anything wrong and never had any foul words with them. If anything it hurt my feelings.

Yes, they can do that. They can do it because there is no law that says they can't. I can see where they might be concerned with working on your vehicle since you sued another mechanic shop.

It may be unseemly to you, but a parallel can be drawn to someone evicted from Pine River Apartments, and Silver Streak Apartments refusing to rent to the person because they were previously evicted.

Another example might be a person was refused credit a Buster's Furniture Store because they stiffed him on a bedroom suite. So, the person applies and is refused credit at Boomer's House of Beds. Whatever we do follows us, unfair to some, fair to others, but not illegal.

Yes, they are allowed to do that. They are under no legal obligation to do business with you - no law says they can't turn down business. It is not illegal discrimination - "people who have sued other mechanics" are not a group protected under the law.
