I received papers in the mail from my ex's lawyer telling me I need to answer all of these questions about my income for the past three years, how much my bills are, my ssn, any health care professionals I have seen since 2006 and why I was seeing them, my strengths and weakness as a parent, and the list goes on and on. It is the craziest thing. I don't have a lawyer and can't afford one. 4,000 dollars for a retainer is not in my prize range. What if anything is there that I can do?

Answer the questions truthfully and under oath or he will file a Motion to Compel discovery and he will bill you for the costs of him preparing and going to the motions hearing.

I hate to tell you this, but if you think you can't afford $4,000 for a retainer, you will really hate what being unrepresented will cost you in the end. You really need a lawyer.

What is this battle over? Custody? Visitation? Child support?

To be honest I'm not really sure this has been going on for about 5 years. I can't seem to get a straight answer. We already have a custody agreement so the only thing I can think is that he is trying to take her from me.

Do I really have to answer questions about when I went to the doctor? I mean I don't understand what having a cold has to do with anything.

You really have to answer the questions. Relevance is not an objection that a judge will hear unless it is VERY out of line. I can't even think of an example. Keep your answers truthful, short and sweet.
