Hi. I am a single mom with a 4 year old son. I am scared because his father hasn't been in his life since he was 1 1/2. Well I got served on Friday for visitations and he wants to review his child support. I have not recieved any money. I am going to school for my RN so I can support us. While the state and my parents are helping me financially. Well I have court on July 3rd and this is not the first time he served me and didnt show. But I want to be prepared in case he does. Do I need a lawyer? I understand if he is willing to be his dad that Zack deserves to have a dad. But I don't think Zack is safe with him. I am so scared that he is going to break my sons heart by being in and out of his life. When he "feels" like it. I haven't had the "father" talk with him yet. It's time huh? How does supervised visits work? Who supervises? Should I get a lawyer? What should I bring with me to court? Will they give him visitations right then and there?? What if I want to make sure he is drug tested? Can I do that? He is such a good boy. Help!!:confused: Boston, MA

Dad does have rights. Visitation and Cs have little to do with each other. You can certainly ask for supervised visits so that the two can get acquainted but unless he has a proven history of violence with the child, it is unlikely you can stop Dad from being involved. Does Dad have an attorney? If he does you should probably retain one.
