My father-in-law has had his son and his sons girlfriend living with him at his house for 3-4 years now. The son and the girlfriend are both doing heroin and keep stealing everything of value in the house. They take my father-in-laws car without permission and stay gone the whole day regardless of whether my father-in-law needs to get to work or not. My father-in-law has been asking the girlfriend to leave everyday for the past 2 months now and she simply will not leave. Today they locked my mother-in-laws son (not the girlfriends boyfriend) who is only 14 in his room with a padlock on the outside of the door while they proceeded to steal the TVs in the house. They are not taking the stuff to the pawnshop or I could press charges for that. They must be selling them on the street. What I need to know is how does my father-in-law get the girlfriend out of the house? I have been told that he has to formally evict her even though she is not "renting" from him. He gave her a date to be out by, but that date passed by about a month ago. Thanks in advance!!

He has to evict her, using the legal eviction process in your state.

If he starts tomorrow with the 10 day notice to leave, he'll be lucky to have the judge issue the eviction order by early January.

Merry THIEVING Christmas!

If they are stealing, why not report them to the police?
That'll get them gone.
If they beat pops, that's likely to be domestic violence and/or senior abuse.
That'll get the police to take them away, too.
It'll also qualify for a restraining order.

If you evict the female, evict the male, too. Otherwise, the drug crazed beast will simply allow the strung out beast to return to the lair.
