I am a nonconstudial parent of 1 child in Indiana from highschool. I currently have 4 other children in my marriage and have transitioned from Active military to civilian life. My current income is significantly lower than my Military income is in which I also pay approx. $500 for medical benefits (dental, medical, and vision) for my family. I have recieved notification that my son is going to need braces and has been to the dentist recently. I was advised that I am going to be expected by the custodial parent to cover 1/2 the costs of the premiums that is not covered by insurance i.e. the copayments and the percentage the insurance doesn't cover. According to guidelines, its hard to understand the lingo that is used. Am I obligated to be expected / mandated to pay these additional costs on top of my support and medical benefit coverage?? Thanks for your help...

Yes, the Indiana guidelines are not completely clear-cut in that regard, so it's hard to say. You may be required to cover half of the uninsured amount, but you should go through the worksheet to see where you stand.

How long ago was the order last reviewed? You've had several changes in circumstance that the court may consider, according to the guidelines, that may change your obligations. I think it would be a good idea to consult an attorney about modifying the order.

I haven't had the order reviewed since we both agreed on it in 1996 after our son was born. Is there any place that I could get free legal consultation for this type of matter?? Thanks for your time.
