What can be taken as settlement in a civil suit if a judgement comes back over and above the limits of an auto insurance policy? If, for example, a $100,000 maximum of an auto insurance policy isn't considered enough money, can things like bank accounts, IRAs, primary residence, vehicles, etc. be ordered seized in favor of the plaintiff?

Also, if a civil judgement is based on a guilty verdict in a criminal proceeding and that verdict is later reversed, does this affect the outcome of the civil suit?

Thanks.

What can be seized in a judgment depends on state law. Some state allow garnishment of wages and some don't. You are entitled to keep what is called a "homestead" and this varies so ask your attorney.

Not sure how to answer your second question. Ask the attorney since it would be fact specific as to why it was admitted in the first place.

The answers to the questions all depend on what state you are in.
