Child Support

I got a letter from the state that I need to file for child support but my babies father lives with me and neither of us are working. We recieve goverment asst. but we are all on the forms. Why do neither of you have jobs? You cannot expect to live off the govenment. Now that you have filed for gov't assistance, it is standard procedure to go after the father. He is not supporting this child. It is awkward if you 2 live together but the courts are going to require you to do this. Both of you should be looking for work, maybe alternating schedules so one can work and the other stay home with the child. He needs to get a job ASAP so you can get off of gov't assistance and not file a child support claim.

Have they threatened to stop assistance?

Maybe your state will pay you some for child support, until the father goes to work, then they would make him pay it back. Look at your state child support laws and procedures.

It would be far better for everyone involved to get a job(s), you don't want the state involved.
