Child Custody

Okay, this isn't necessarily involving me, I'm just asking this so I can help my boyfriend (because he's kind of clueless on what to do now in this situation.)

My boyfriend and his ex split over two years ago, and they had a kid together about four years ago. Now that she's found a new boyfriend, they're doing whatever they can to get my boyfriend out of the child's life completely.

The mother moved out of state, without even telling the father, for one thing, refused to let him see his child, and has now gained temporary emergeny full custody of the child (for, no reason whatsoever.)

Anyway, the problem is he's barely going to have enough money to pay for court costs, let alone a lawyer. He doesn't want to sign off on the child and he doesn't mind paying child support. But he doesn't know what to do now that he's going to need a lawyer. On top of all this, he was lucky enough to get the harshest judge around (who is notorious for siding with the mother, no matter what the case is.)

If he wants any chance, he's going to need one.. But everyone is telling him he can't possibly afford the lawyer and court costs. Is there any type of aid or anything you can get in custody cases? Or does anyone know an average of what this lawyer could cost him?

Was there ever a custody or visitation order? Your boyfriend should have filed something when she moved out of state, while his state still had jurisdictiobn. If she has met the residency requirements of the new state she is free to file there, but your boyfriend now has to file for visitation in this new state. He migth want to verify the residency requirement was met for her to do this. What state and how long as she been there?

He can always call around to attorneys to see if anyone can help him. Without a set visitation order though mom can play these games. I suggest your boyfriend talk to some attorneys, borrow some money if he needs to or work a second job so that he can afford some counsel.
