I am the parent of a 17 year old, my parents have had custody of him since he was 2 years old. I was 15 when he was born and they filed for custody when I was 17. The last time we went to court, he was 8 and the judge stated that neither home was unfit, but because he had lived there all of his life that he would not change custody. This was in Alabama. My parents have home schooled him until last year when he began his Junior year of school. I did not like this but he said he was happy so I left it alone. They have now been living in GA for the last two years. My son has been very depressed while in there care and he called me last night telling me he was tired of the arguing between my parents and wanted me to come get him. I spoke with a police officer because my step-dad said if I picked him up he would have me arrested. The cop advised that because my son is enrolled in school, that he would be considered a run away if I picked him up and I could be charged with harboring a run away. Do I need to apply for custody in order to bring my son to my home, he will be 18 in 6 months? I am not sure what I need to do as right now money is tight in our home and I really can't afford to hire an attorney right now.
