i am from memphis, tn and i want to change me son's last name from his father's back to mine. what do i need to do to go about this? also my boyfriend wants to adopt my son and what should i do for this as well? also ive been told to go to the court but i dont know what court

You will need a lawyer.

You will most likely need the father's permission to change your child's name.

For a step-parent adoption, you will have to terminate the father's rights, but you may also have to be married for anywhere from 6 months to one year before your boyfriend will be allowed to adopt.

You'll need dads permission to change the last name and you'll likely need to wait until you are married and dad will also have to consent to the adoption. Why do you want your boyfriend to adopt? If Dad has any contact with the kids and does not allow it. it will not happen.

now, i might be a little negative about this considering the girl i dated breifly and got pregnet, is now trying to do the samething, after i gave my life to her and my son! hole nother ordeal but, why would you want to do that, what are the 2 things that make your identidy, mothers maiden name and your social security number? that is the number one reason the children take the fathers last name, to protect them! Think about it!
