My jurisdiction is: NEW MEXICO

In Nov of 2001 Virginia put a hold on getting my licence from any state, for not having insurance on my vehicle. I contacted VA,and tried to get them to drop this but they want me to show I had insurance in Nov. of 2001. I was not even a resident of Va at that time. I do not have the car, and do not remember what insurance I had, now they want me to pay The state of VA $500.00. is there some kind of statute of limitations on this, or a way to not pay??????

HELP!!!!

I only am familiar with my State and those of others. . .

As a general rule, you have to clean up your record with the previous state, before your new one gives you a clean Driver's License. There is no statue of limitation on it, most likely.

You have to pay, one way or another. $500 is probably better than all the time and annoyance and uncertainty of having a hearing about your license, right or wrong.

My suggestion, not legal mind you, is to pay the $500.
