Can they Keep my paycheck?

Hello. My employer is saying that since I was late to work and had the key to the delivery van i drive in my pocket he lost 400 dollars. He said today that he's getting that 400 and i'm not getting a paycheck this week. Can he legaly do that? I work and reside in NY.

No, he cannot keep your paycheck, and if he tries to keep it you can file a claim with the state DOL.

However, he can fire you for being late to work and for taking the key to the van home with you.
