I just received a visit from my father-in-law telling me that they were planning on obtaining temporary custody of my 2 daughters. He said that his daughter was extremely unstable and on drugs and that they wanted to step in and have custody. But wanted to let me know before they went ahead and took the steps.
He said that the mother was very close to signing them over to them. They basically told me not to talk to her as to not convince her to change her mind. He said that he knows that I am a very good father and that it would be up to the court to decide.
I was convicted of misdemeanor DV about a year ago but I have 2 classes left. By law I am able to obtain full custody if I complete my classes, pay my fines and haven't committed any other crimes. I have done all those plus I have a job a car and a room for them.
Now I was gonna file for custody in 2 weeks but now I get this bombshell and I'm afraid that she will sign them over. She has full custody and I only have 50% visitation.
Can she do that and is it harder for me to get custody after and if she signs them over can she get them back when she gets her life together?
What can I do?
Thank you in advance.
