My ex-boyfriend gave me money (approximately $1500) in 2008 to pay some bills. He didn't want the money to put a strain on our relationship, so he said not to worry about paying it back. "It's not a big deal, it's just money. It's just sitting in my bank account - I don't need it." His family is very wealthy, and he liked to remind me of it often.
We broke up in the beginning of 2009, and his actions turned violent. He repeatedly showed up on my 2nd floor balcony in the middle of the night, pounding on my patio door. I filed a police report after he broke into my apartment through a window at 5 in the morning. He also destroyed personal property of mine, and tried blackmailing me with photos he took of me while I was sleeping. It got to the point where I was afraid to be in my home alone.
At the end of the summer of 2009, I terminated the lease at my apartment and moved out of the state. I received an email from him a couple days ago demanding his money back, and threatening me with a lawsuit if I did not pay up. I heard from a mutual friend that he recently moved out of his parent's house. Most likely he is trying to obtain the money now because he doesn't work, and now has to pay rent.
Can he sue me?
