Can I use the name of a public university as part of a .com domain?

I am looking to use the initials of a public university to set up a fan site for sports. i.e. LSUsports.com There are dozens of twitter feeds, blogs, and newsletters using the ignitions an a similar way. Is this ok?

Check with the University. In some instances permission has already been given to sites who are using their name.
