I'm a mechanic for a company. I'v been painting the fleet of vehicles for 9 years now. The paint is making me sick. I had to call in OSHA just to get protective equipment. Got back from the doctor today with a diagnosis of pnuemonia. A lot of spray painters get occupational illness. Being i'm a mechanic, can i quit for my own safety and collect unemployment?

In your state, it's possible. But it's never a guarantee. I would think very, very carefully about any other options before taking that final step, and I'd talk to the UI office before I did it. They won't give you a guaranteed yes or no until after you've already quit and filed the claim (the problem there is that if they say no, you're out of a job with no UI and no income) but you should be able to discern the likelihood from what they do say.

At least in MN there's a chance. In almost any other state it would be a flat no.
