Medical Malpractice Can I make the doctor pay?

Okay so I had to have some nerve conduction test run to check for carpal tunnel. When I got to the neurologists office, the assistant took me back and performed the tests. She also answered her cell phone in between arms and had a personal conversation (maybe not illegal but annoying). She informed me that the doctor was about to "fly out" for the week and she would check if he wanted to talk to me. She then came back 5 minutes later saying "he says you are fine, you can go home." I didn't even meet the doctor and when I told her that my general physician wanted an MRI to check for Multiple Sclerosis if I did not have carpal tunnel, she said, " then she will probably want to do that. You are done today." So I went home.
I went to see another doctor, who after looking at my test and my medical history said he thought I had either a brain tumor or multiple sclerosis and so he ordered an MRI. I was devastated for a week and half waiting to find out if I was dying or had a lifelong disease. Well the radiologist who read the MRI said I had 3 bulging discs in my neck, so my doctor sent me out of town to see an orthopedic doctor. He took a look at the MRI and said the discs were not bulging, but he thought I had carpal tunnel. When I told him about the first nerve conduction test, he ordered a new one by one of his colleagues. This test was more thorough and performed by the doctor himself. (Who also informed me that cell phones being nearby can interfere with the equipment)
Well this test was positive, I do have carpal tunnel.
So can I sue the first neurologist for the costs of the unnecessary MRI, Trip to the orthopedic specialist and my mental anguish (thinking you may be dying for 2 weeks is hell on a marriage)? I definitely don't think I should have to pay him for the test that his assistant conducted.
I am in Texas, and I have health insurance but it is a $5000 deductible before it pays for anything so I am being billed personally for all of this.
