I am involved with a small non-profit organization managing a public facility. The club is a corporation, and has a board of directors who are responsible for overseeing day to day operations. The board changes annually. Overall a very rinky-dink operation. Think of the club managing the archery range at the local state park.
As these things go, dischord has entered the picture. Two opposing groups are fighting over the direction of the board. The side that is currently out of power has a member who is a "lawyer from hell". She is on constant attack. She picks the nit on everything, accuses the board of acting illegally, threatens court action, threatens personal liability. The board is an assembly of basically harmless volunteers who are being frightened and harassed on almost a daily basis.
The strategy seems to be to scare off oppostition. The board is paralyzed, as they are afraid they will be sued no matter what happens. Any advice on how to deal with this type of person? No one can afford, or wants to get their own lawyer, they just want her to go away.

Yes, that's easy. Every state has a "lawyers code of conduct" and also for every state there is a complaint process. If this attorney is over stepping her boundry and not acting for or as an attorney for a client, any reasonable person would deem that as unbecoming. Check with your states Bar Association for complaint form. You are immune from suit due to the complaint.
