This is for a medical bill. Court date is 1-6. Want to settle out of court, but can't afford to pay entire amt until 1-15.

If I show up & file my answer on 1-6 can I then work out a deal w/lawyers to avoid judgement? If so, what do I state in my answer? Or must I have everything before 1-6 to avoid judgement?

Why wait until your court date? Talk to the lawyers now. If you avoid them having to go to court and deal with your answer, you cut down their costs and benefit their client.

Dee is completely right. File an answer that says that you don't owe the debt. (No it doesn't matter). Then contact the attorney handling the other side and tell them you can pay the entire balance on the 15th. They will no doubt continue the case that far to let you pay it. Good luck.
