My son lives in CA and I live in MI. Ex has agreed to send him here this summer. He has for the past three years but always changes his mind. He pays his 500$ fine and we end up doing it all over again.

Now he wants background checks of all of the people living with me. My hubby and his retired parents that used to be teachers. So I do not want to fight, I just want to see my son. I got the background checks through intelius and now he says they are not good enough. "head/desk". I gave the court the names of everyone and their SSN#"s and my ex wants more.

Where should I get the background checks and how many times can he be in contempt of court before going to jail?

You should ask in writing for what he wants from you and then comply with what he has requested. I am not sure what else you can do. The police are not likely to run criminal checks on you and your family, so I am not sure what more you can do.

As for violating the order, in what state has the order been issued? Keep in mind that these orders may not have any potential jail penalties attached ... especially if they involve cross-state enforcement.

Perhaps you need to consult an attorney in the state of issuance of the order.

He may not be in the right to demand background checks. Have you talked to an attorney? The same should go for him as well. He just cannot make these demands, but then he can always make it difficult for you to see your son. Since Dad is playing hardball, I think you should talk to an attorney.
