My jurisdiction is: New York
I am being represented by a Legal Aid Lawyer.
My divorce case is going to trial in 6 days and now my Legal Aid Lawyer calls me and says he "must" have his fee's now!
He knows I have lost my job and don't have any money left, yet he is demanding to get paid.
All through this case he has been telling me that we are in very good shape.
She has been hiding money for years, and we have bank account numbers to prove it. She also has a large Pension that I should be entitled to half of.
Can anyone tell me why he would do this so close to the end?
Isn't it in his best interest to go after the money she is hiding and her Pension?
What can I do? I can't defend myself in court because when I get nervous I can't even talk!
And admittedly, my mind is slow and I don't think as fast as I used to. [65 years old].
I offered to pay [with borrowed money] for the 6 supeonas that have already been served, [$600.00] but he would not take only part of what I owe him!
Please, Someone tell me what I can do.
Would it do any good to just show up at Court and give the Judge a letter explaining my positon?
