My bf tried to take a bike out of someones garage but they were home and came out and yelled at him so he sat the bike down on lawn and ran. But was caught down street a few min later. What exactly can the courts do or how much time will he likely do?

My bf tried to take a bike out of someones garage but they were home and came out and yelled at him so he sat the bike down on lawn and ran. But was caught down street a few min later. What exactly can the courts do or how much time will he likely do?

He could go to jail.

He might get charged with burglary, probably something less.

Plead not guilty, shut up, stay outta more trouble, ask for a taxpayer provided lawyer, follow the lawyer's great advice.

If your boyfriend has a clean record expect him to get a petty theft charge.
If he is a regular crook with a lengthy rap sheet, especially if he is an adult, he is more likely to see the felony burglary charge.
It doesn't matter that he dropped the bike and ran, he did actually complete the burglary.
