Amateur webmaster is in trouble

6 years ago I bought the dotnet version of my employer's dotcom domain name. I put up a simple placeholder page, told nobody about it and made no money from it. The company is fairly large with an IT department. They just discovered my site and are about to lower the boom. I voluntarily took the site down. I was sent home Thursday and told to not return until Monday, at which time I will be told their decision about my employment. I realize that my job is probably gone, but any advice would be appreciated.
