Alimony and Child support

I have divorced in California but none of our assets have been divided. My ex supported me while I stayed home with the children. I have not worked in 15 years. He was a land developer and made over $400,000 for the last two tax returns.

Here is the confusing part. He has quit work for the last year and says he cannot be a developer any more because of the horrible market in California. Most people would buy into that. However, we made our start in a bad market and as a developer, you are in planning two years into the future.

My attorney thinks child support or alimony is slim because there is No money (we have substantial land holdings that we will split). How can this be? What should I do? Is there a better argument?
