* Walked into a bar/restaurant down the NJ Shore.
it was a large Irish bar in Ocean Grove....
I am a 57 year old conservative male...that was
dressed with plain white shorts and a dress white
golf shirt...my girlfriend likewise...

My girlfriend and I were neatly dressed...only I had
a simple white nike golf cap that I was wearing flipped
around (like a baseball catcher )
the greeter at the front door podium...advised me that
they allow caps to be worn, however, they required that
I flip the cap around after 6PM (it was about 550PM)
when we entered...

(I reconfirmed with the greeter...what he was saying...
and he did say, you can wear the cap but it must be
turned forward..)

* bascially, I left and went to another place to eat...

However, should I have sat down and started to eat ...
and left my hat backwards... could they have their 'security"
people try to forcibly remove me if I did not comply?

If so, would they have possibly exposed themselves
to assault or a like charge or complaint??

FOUND out...

I am the person who started this post..and I found out from
a friend that wearing a cap backwards is one of the signs
of a gang symbol....

So, I guess this place had problems in the past...but
it is funny...the average age at the bar at 6PM...when
I walked in was 60+...

I just randomly walked into the place to get supper after
a day at the beach ...and it was in a nice mall...on a
main highway area... good to know ...now I will stay away.

You can't seriously be asking if a restaurant has a right to enforce their dress code, can you? You don't really mean that you think you have the right to force them to allow you to enter regardless. You can't possibly mean that you think that if you'd just walked in and sat down, they would have been forced to allow it because calling security and having you ejected would be a violation of the law and/or your rights?

No, you couldn't possibly have that great a sense of entitlement. This is a joke post, right?

My good sir... (cbg)
This is not a joke post... the restaurant asked me to simply turn my all white
cloth nike golf cap around so that the bill was forward... I had it turn around
since my sunburn on my head was a little bad....

I knew they can enforce a dress code...but to ask to turn a cap around
is a little perplexing...

Bottom line... I am happy this happened since this conservative appearing
establishment (Irish bar) apparently had problems in the past...
this was a good thing in retrospec...since I took my money to another
bar and I will never go to that bar again since they did me a favor
by indirectly saying..."we had a problem before with the baseball caps
being a gang symbol"...

If they had half a brain...they would ask that they request customers to
remove their caps upon entering.

It is sick out there and getting sicker.....

There is nothing whatsoever improper about asking you to turn your cap around, and to even suggest that you should be allowed to violate their code OR that you should be allowed to simply walk in and then file charges if you are ejected; well, that's what I consider perplexing.

I'll make it clear to you, shall I?

Yes, they may enforce their dress code.

Yes, if you simply walked in and sat down anyway you could be ejected by security.

No, if that happened you would have no legal recourse.

As you have already determined, you are free to take your business elsewhere if you object to their requirements. You are NOT free to sue them for them.

This is the kind of person I enjoy kicking out when the restaurant calls for help.
It is not a gang issue at all... just a simple dress code. Apparently they prefer that their customers be dressed to certain requirements and that they wear their clothing properly... what nerve!
