I am being forced to close burdensome shifts , and work unreasonable shifts, do to another employee's religious observations.... He is the employee that should be closing, due to our seniority rule....However because of his religion, I have to close on behalf of his observations..... I think this is unfair and unjust?... I feel that I am being involuntarily forced to accommodate him

Please clarify "burdensome shifts" " unreasonable shifts".

He is the employee that should be closing, due to our seniority rule

This needs clarification. Is the seniority rule due to a term in a collective bargaining agreement (CBA) that your union has with your employer? If this is not required by a CBA, are you a government employee where the governing civil service rules set out a seniority system, or are you a private company employee and the seniority rule is simply a policy of the employer?

In other words, outside some contractual or statutory requirement, your employer is free to assign to you any schedule that s/he/it desires.

That sounds like slavery to me, boss.

However, with your great legal acumen, I'll just stifle myself.

Are you saying that an employer who complies with statutory and contractual requirements cannot decide what schedule an employee is assigned?
