My stepson is a very bad drug addict and is very intimidating and threatening. The whole house is constantly afraid of what he might do. He has refused to move out and we have been told we have to file an eviction to get him out. That takes a while. We feel unsafe in our own house. In the last couple of days he has gotten worse. He constantly cusses out his mother and grandmother, he bowed up to me and ripped his shirt off like he was going to fight me and did the same to his 12 year old special needs brother. His mother had to try and restrain him both times. He has told me that he was going to take me out with whatever he could find to do so. He has punched holes in the walls and thrown things hard enough to put a large crack in a door. He constantly berates me and anyone who tries to enforce rules or discipline. He stays up all night rummaging through our house and using drugs. This morning we found crushed up pills on the coffee table. He smokes weed on our porch and in the bathroom and dares us to do something about it. We have to lock up our car keys (he has taken the cars at night while we are asleep and he has a suspended drivers license), prescription meds and our wallets/purses. He will steal anything he wants from our house. We are at our wits end and feel extremely unsafe in our own home. What can we do? I have thought of trying to get a protective order, but as of yet he hasn't actually physically assaulted anyone yet. The potential is definitely there. We have even hidden all of the sharp knives in our house.

Assuming he's no longer a minor, you can indeed evict him.

You'll start with the standard "3 day notice", then you'll have to go ahead with the eviction. You can read here: http://texaslawhelp.org/issues/housing/eviction

Good luck - you're in a horrible situation. Having said that, you can try to obtain a restraining order - he's obviously a threat to the adults and the child, and what happens then is the RO more or less does it for you...or at least gives you time to file in court.

How old is junior? Either way, call the police. If he is young, it sounds like he needs to be in a special boarding school for seriously disturbed kids. If older, I doubt he woke up one day and started acting like this so I do wonder why nothing was done when he was younger along the lines of such a school and treatment?

You MUST hold the abuser accountable for his actions.
It is an important step in breaking the Cycle of Violence.
There are a variety of services available including, but not limited to: filing a police report, obtaining an order of protection, family counseling, and crisis intervention.
The extent to which you utilize police or court services is completely up to you.
Without taking the first step, the violence will only escalate, eventually spiraling out of control.

Google, Bing, or Yahoo: "your county, TX order of protection"

Here's an example for: "Bexar County, TX Order of protection":

http://www.co.bexar.tx.us/da/DomesticViolence.html

http://www.bcfjc.org/Legal.html

No appointment is necessary to obtain an order of protection, as people are seen on a first come first serve basis.
There is never a charge for a protective order.

Anyone may apply for a Protective Order.

To obtain a protective order, the victim and the offender must be:

Related by blood or marriage (ex spouses also eligible)
Currently living together or have previously lived together
Have a child together
Have/had a continuing intimate dating relationship without regard to gender
Someone who sexually assaulted the victim

You will be required to fill out a simple form providing information on yourself and the person you are making the complaint against (defendant). If you cannot fill out the form, it will be completed on your behalf.

There you go, now saddle up, head on over to the correct courthouse (JP Facility), and start the process to get the monster gone!

Agree with the others that if you fear for your safety or the safety of a family member, call the police (dial 911 if necessary). Also, look into getting a RO. You are all in a bad situation.
