Rights, Policies List of State Fair Employment Practices Agencies

The overwhelming majority of states and some localities have enacted their own anti-discrimination laws. They also have set up agencies responsible for enforcing these laws, which are known as Fair Employment Practices Agencies or "FEPAs" as abbreviated. View attachment 750

As would be expected, the laws that FEPAs enforce are similar to the laws that are enforced by the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission), a federal agency. FEPAs can enforce local law that extends beyond EEOC coverage, which includes a prohibition against discrimination due to sexual orientation, marital status and having children. Make sure you become aware of the deadlines for filing a charge, including the different standards for determining if you qualify for protection under state or local law.
