Utilizing fmla leave

I want to care for a parent who is currently in a rehab hospital. Her home is on the 3rd floor. I am currently living with her too, if it matters. When parent gets discharged she will be unable to go up stairs and will not be able to utilize her apartment. I want to start the moving process…boxing items up, etc. prior to her discharge because she will need me physically with her after discharge to assist with adl's. She and I will be staying at a family members until I find a permanent residence for her to live in…but like I said, I will be caring for her. My question is, is getting parents items boxed up and ready to move considered "caring for" them and can I use fmla for this purpose? Thank you.

What response did you get when you asked your employer for unpaid FMLA leave for the stated purpose?

My employer said that "getting boxes ready and running errands" is not covered under fmla.

I am admittedly a little rusty on FMLA since it's managed in a different area of my department, but I would agree with your employer.

Section 2 #3 lists out the possible reasons needed. You might be able to fall under the "psychological comfort" if the doctor will certify it in Section 3 A4.

But it might be a stretch based on the reasons and what you state you will be doing (packing a living location rather than any direct help)
