We contracted with a roofer for a metal roof. To make a long story short, he abandoned the job after we paid him $15,000.00. We now need to hire another roofer to complete the job. Estimates are that the work the first roofer did are worth roughly $4,000.00. We hired a lawyer for $1500.00 to try to recoup some of the money paid to the contractor who abandoned the job. Now she tells us she can not do anything if the roofer does not provide her with his insurance information. She did not tell us he had to supply the information to her in order for her to try to get the money back. Is this correct or can she get this information some other way? We now feel like we were taken advantage of by the lawyer as well as the roofer.

I'm not sure I understand what the lawyer is trying to say. What does insurance information have to do with this story? You paid $15k and he provided about $4k in services. You're out $11k. Why not send out a demand letter for breach of contract and then file a case in court?
