Retire or quit

I've been working for my company for 20 years, and I have another job opportunity. I am under the age of 50. Can I retire from the company to start another job or do I have to quit? Would it make a difference or are there some benefits to "retiring" vs. quitting?

Are you vested in a retirement plan with your current employer? If so, what are the terms for eligibility to receive the retirment benefits?

I am vested in the company's 401K, but I understand that I need to follow the Federal guidelines for taking distributions.

At under 50 there is no value or benefit to "retiring" as you could not collect any kind of pension so young.
