I recently paid a civil demand for a theft incident at a grocery store. I was not banned, no police were involved, and I did not sign anything. After speaking with an attorney I was told to pay the demand so my credit would not get hurt. I have discovered the National Retail Theft Database and I have been told getting a job in retail will be impossible because of it..but I shouldn't be affected if I apply outside of retail. Is this true? Does anyone have experience being on this database?

Yes, that database can limit your chances for a job in retail, even some financial careers, such as banks and/or insurance companies.

Not much you can do about it, because they nabbed you.

Yes thats true. Being in a Retail Theft database harms you basically if you seek employment in retail industry.
