I have been accussed of theft I and theft II. Like most working stiffs, I can not afford a lawyer, so a public defender was assigned to my case. I have had one meeting with him so far, and he was less than helpful. Fortunately there is evidence to prove my case, however when I told my public defender he seemed more annoyed then relieved. I need to subpoena records from 3 different companies and at least 2 eye witness to prove my case. He told me that they would be hard to get and that we wouldn't be able to get them until the day before the trial. I will need to go thru 9 months of financial records for 3 separate companies to find the proof of my innocence, so getting them the day of the trial would be pointless. I need to know if this is true, and if not what can I do to make sure I get the documents I need in time. Thank you for any advice.
