My jurisdiction is: Oregon

... I have a credit card debt of a couple of years. It states I must "appear" in the case or the other side will win automatically. To "appear" I must file with the court a legal paper called a "answer" or "motion" and given to the court clerk along with the required filing fee. I am unable to make a payment or arrangements due to my current financial situation. What's the worst that can happen  Thanks in advance.

They get a judgment against you and try to attach it to your assets-- i.e. Bank account wages etc... I was always under the impression the filing fee was paid for by the plaintiff-- you might want to give the court a call and verify the "filing fee"
