Estate of Deceased Mother & Her Lawsuit

My mother passed away the day her Personal Injury lawsuit was filed in court by her attorney. She is the only one that signed the retainer (not myself). If I decided not to proceed with her suit through an Estate, will I be responsible for any Legal Fees incurred in the gathering of evidence for and the filing of the suit?

If I can be held responsible, what legal avenues would be suggested to oppose the imposing of fees?

You need to contact the lawyer that she used and find out (if you can) what the terms were with that lawyer. He/She may have had something setup where they can go after the estate. You would not be liable for anything personally - any money that is determined to be owed would come from your mother's estate.
