You are the LEGAL owner of the vehicle.
You can counterclaim against your pal, but the people he hurt, the owners of the property he destroyed can choose to sue you, him, or go against you both jointly and severally.

If the vehicle was still insured, contact your insurance carrier.
If it wasn't, you might want to see if your homeowner's policy, r an u Bella liability policy will assist you, assuming you have such coverage.

Until you secure an attorney to represent and protect your interests, I suggest you STOP discussing this with anyone, especially the alleged victims and your former buddy.

Silence is golden. The stuff you related above, never gonna help your position.

Seriously, this is why you don't do what you did. People never listen to instructions telling them NOT to do something. When you say DON'T, they hear DO.

The keys, OP, you shouldn't ever have given dude your keys.

To answer your question, your license will likely be revoked, an SR22 filing will be required, insurance rates will be exorbitant, and you might not legally be able to license a vehicle for years. Plus, your stuff, most of your stuff (wages and savings) could be snatched.

Ask about bankruptcy, if a judgment is issued. It can help beat back the wolves that will be trying to take your stuff.
