So there was 7 of us riding dirt bikes and atvs on private property. We had consent to be there, but when the cops showed up they told the owner he had to say we were trespassing or they would arrest everyone even the owner( because there was so many of us) So he said we were trespassing and the cops impounded all of our machines. There was another group of riders. Father and son. The father is a NYC detective and the park ranger and suffolk pd let him and his son go with no tickets and there machines. There was no private property signs or no trespassing signs. Is there anything we can do to fight the tickets or impound fees??

I'm flabbergasted that you don't consider the fact that every person ACCUSED of breaking THEIR laws is innocent UNTIL proven guilty in a court of law!!!

All you need to do, if you wish to contest the citations is to appear in court as instructed on the citation's face, on the appointed date, time, and place.

When your case is called, you'll enter a plea, guilty or not guilty.

The judge will direct you after you've appeared and plead.

You are also able to hire an attorney, he or she will instruct you further.

Be advised, the government will Exact it's pound or three of flesh, no matter what you do.

The easiest way to avoid these dilemmas is to endeavor
to always be OBEYING their laws.

If you seek REAL LEGAL ADVICE and assistance, hiring an attorney is the ONLY solution, all other efforts are simply palliative, as in "Serving to palliate; serving to extenuate, mitigate, or alleviate."

Yes: shut your mouth and hire a competent lawyer, because right now you're in danger of only making a bad situation worse.

1) It is ILLEGAL in Suffolk County NY to operate ATVs on public property UNLESS it is specifically designated for ATV with supporting signage.

2) You did not have express *written* consent of the property own to ride your ATVs on private property.

The police were there because someone complained about you. Perhaps you were loud. Perhaps your group was reckless. Perhaps when the police arrived, some of your party appeared to be attempting to evade them.

Why was there a park ranger involved if you were riding on private property?

The statute that Red Kayak posted is pretty straight forward about needing written permission.

That is because the police protect each other have each others backs and typically are like a gang. One officer says one thing they all say the same thing.

That doesn't help your situation, like was stated you need to get an attorney. Most police over charge suspects just to get something to stick. As long as you have a clean or close to clean record then you will probably get off with a slap on the wrist. Just a fine and move on.
