My friend wants to divorce her husband. She wants to leave and live somewhere else but is concerned that if she physically leaves the house, she will give up her rights to the house. They have been married for 27 years and the house is in both of their names. We live in Anoka County, Minnesota. Does anyone have any advice?

The house is marital property and she will be entitled to her share of the equity. She should file for divorce before she leaves, or soon after, to prevent dissipation of marital assets.

Yes, she will be able to keep the house, but I think it would be practical to wind up her divorce before she moves. It would be difficult to navigate the nitty gritty of it all from such a far distance. Perhaps she could move to a new place or stay with family/friends in the same city for now?
