I have 3 children from a previous marriage ages 12, 11, and 9. The bio-father is deceased and i have remarried seven months ago. The children have decided they want to be adopted by my husband. They have taken upon themselves to change their names at school and church (unofficially of course). We have checked with local attorneys only to be told the cost is one thousand dollars for each child, Is there a way we can do the work ourselves considering there is no one to contest the adoption?

I cannot recommend you do this because any errors could overturn the adoption, and if your current husband ever passes away (god forbid) survivor benefits would depend on if the adoption was correctly done.

Have you called around and got more quotes for any attorneys? Actually 1k each child still sounds resonable.
