Company naming with similar name.

I am working on naming a couple businesses with holding Co. One company is a sustainable living company holding Co. Operating Co. structure.
If a company with the same name in a different state and different sector is or was in use can I use the name for my holding Co.?
Same with the operating company. How close can the name be to an existing company?
I was having AI help with naming. However we are getting no where because it thinks everything is to close to another company.
We also are coming up with coined words and they are taken.

Facts and circumstances matter, and you have (appropriately) provided only the most vague facts. It would not be appropriate to identify the specific names or the relevant facts, so a proper trademark/trade name analysis isn't really possible on a public message board.

That said, as a general matter, being in different states and sectors are good factors for you.

You really need to speak with a local attorney who understands trademark/trade name issues and who can review the specific names and details.

I wouldn't consider using AI for anything. I avoid it, like one might choose to do with a plague.
