I received a termination letter by mail saying I had abandoned my position. Due to an unexpected death in my family, I requested time off in which my boss refused. I begged to use vacation time or personal time to settle my mother's assets. My boss advised for me to take time off during the month of August 2007 (my mother passed away 1/30/07). During the week I was away, I received a call from a coworker who said the office was saying I had abandoned my job. When I returned I called my boss and the human resource department, they never returned my call and instead, a day later they sent me the termination letter. I have documentation from an attorney stating as to why I had to leave town. If I informed the company of my leave and return to NYC and have documentation, was I wrongfully terminated.
