Hello,
Recently I entered into a written contract with a company for 12 months of service. Before signing the contract the company and myself had a verbal agreement that the contract/work would not go live until I gave them the go ahead. A few hours later I contacted them saying that unfortunately I will not be able to use there services as something has come up. I was told the contract went live and that they couldn't stop it.
Is this a breach in the verbal agreement?

I refused to pay them for 4 months before my service was canceled, and now they want the full 12 months of service paid for(of which I'm not getting). The contract states that they have the right to cancel service if payment is late, however it does not state that I would need to pay the full 12 months.
Can I be held accountable for this?

If not, what would be the best way to go about getting this cleared up?
I have contacted them multiple times and get the same 'pay us' attitude.

Any advice would be more then welcome, as I feel cornered right now.
