Hi,

Recently my fiance was accused of insubordination at work. She was working on a project for the director of her department, which was a classified project, and was then approached by the assistant director. This AD asked her what she was working on and my fiance said she was not allowed to say. The AD said well it must not be important and that she should be working on another project for her instead. My fiance proceeds to tell her that she can't because she is working on this. The AD then claimed she was being insubordinate and needs to fall in line or else she will never be promoted. The AD then wrote up my fiance's supervisor because he needed to keep my fiance in check. Mind you, the AD is not in my fiance's direct chain of command. Does she have grounds for a complaint at the least?

Thank you

No & it would be best that she not try making one.

It would have been better to get the Director involved and let that person make the call on which project should take precedence. Refusing to do something that is asked of you, is insubordination.
